It is through the Cross de Humilladero that the village receives its name. Its history dates back to 1410, when the Infante Don Fernando de Antequera swore an oath not to sheathe the sword of Fernando III. The latter knelt down and kissed it to take the oath until he had managed to conquer Antequera by his own means.
Accompanying him were more knights who took the oath in the same place. This is where this cross was established to mark the important event marked by Don Fernando de Antequera.
This symbol has become a meeting point and one of the most visited places by tourists. It is located at the entrance to the village of Humilladero, in commemoration of the oath taken. This was what led to the creation of a convent and later the development of the whole village.
On the other hand, there are some stories that claim that the Catholic Monarchs, on their way to Granada, stopped at this place. During this stop in Humilladero, they went to the cross and knelt down to make a reference to this fact.
Those who visit the Humilladero know that it is one of the emblematic places of this tourist town. That is why they are constantly taking pictures with the monument, which despite not being a work of art, has a historical value. So if you decide to visit the town, the Cruz de Humilladero is a place you cannot miss.
