The parish church of the Virgen del Rosario is very popular in the town of Humilladero. This is due to the fact that it is the home of the town’s patron saint, to whom homage is constantly paid.
The origin of this church is uncertain, as there is a tombstone on its door that states that it was built in 1861. However, it is believed in the village that before being the church we know today, it was a small chapel.
Some documents indicate that by June 1722 it was already fully operational for its inhabitants. On the other hand, other documents indicate that it was functioning until 1795, when it underwent a process of remodelling. Thus it may have reached the point of edification as it is known today within Humilladero.
Devotion within this church is shared between the Virgen del Rosario, who is the main patron saint, and the Cristo de la Misericordia. All the parishioners attend the masses that are held in a popular way and usually attract different tourists. It is a good place to get to know, to take the little ones and to learn more about the culture of Humilladero.
This parish church of the Virgen del Rosario was built, according to village tradition, on the site of a former palace of Princess Algotisa. For many, this is the real beginning of this church, which has many characteristics. It also has in its interior different spaces with 18th century arrangements and a Saint Francis of Assisi in polychrome wood.
